The Team

Lachlan Bucknall

Mountain Addiction is Lachlan's lifetime dream and creation, he is a former British Army officer of 11 years who has been climbing and mountaineering internationally for over 18 years. Lachlan is qualified as a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI was formerly called MIA) and is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI), he is also qualified as a military Rock Climbing Instructor and Ski Touring Leader, and medically qualified as a Wilderness First Responder.

Lachlan spent over a decade training, leading and developing people for the harshest of environments including Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa. With a desire to develop people he wanted to utilise those leadership and instructional skills and combine them with his love of the mountains, Mountain Addiction was born. He firmly believes learning should be safe, exciting and progressive and this underpins everything that we do.

Paul Taylor

Paul has been exploring the mountains as a hillwalker and as an endurance athlete for many years competing in events across the country. He served in the military for 24 years where he specialised in developing soldiers into leaders for the most challenging of environments. That passion for developing people has now carried him forward into the outdoor industry as a Mountain and Expedition Leader as well as working in international disaster response for the charity Team Rubicon. Paul is a fully qualified Mountain Leader, Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician and Swift Water Rescue Technician.

mark house

Mark is a qualified Summer and Winter Mountain Leader and has a strong belief in using the outdoors as a vehicle for personal development. Mark has been exploring the outdoors since childhood and has amassed a wealth of experience leading and supporting teams of adults and young people in the mountains of the UK and overseas. He has been working in the outdoor industry since completing a Degree in Outdoor Studies in 2002.

Having been lucky enough to lead and support teams of young people and adults in the outdoors throughout the UK and further afield, he has a particular passion for teaching others the skills they need to go off and have their own adventures!

dan lane

Dan has been keen on the outdoors from the moment he could walk and has subsequently gathered a huge amount of walking, climbing and mountaineering experience over the last 15 years, not only in the UK, but also the likes of France, Norway and Switzerland. Dan is based in Snowdonia and holds the Summer Mountain Leader and Single Pitch Awards (SPA is now called Rock Climbing Instructor award). When he's not leading or instructing he's still out and about in the hills; as a passionate landscape photographer he spends much of his time high up in remote places at dawn and dusk, often walking for hours in the dark to catch the perfect light.

If it wasn't for help and encouragement to get out in the hills at a young age, Dan may not be where he is today. This is what motivates him to be a mountain instructor and leader. He firmly believes that a love for the outdoors is hidden deep down inside everyone, some people simply require some help to discover it - his aim is to help people do exactly that.

Mark served in the British Army for a number of years in various leadership and instructional positions, since leaving the military has been utilising his extensive experience in the mountains to lead and help develop others in the outdoors. Mark is highly experienced at instructing and training people, he holds the Mountain Leader (Summer) qualification and is progressing in the civilian Rock Climbing Instructor award, he is also qualified as a Rock Climbing Leader in the military adventurous training scheme. Mark has a wide range of experience climbing mountains throughout the UK and also overseas, he is outdoor first aid qualified and also has a passion for mountain biking.
