Guided Climbs

A guided climb is a great way to develop yourself and experience rock climbing outdoors. We lead you on single or multi-pitch routes so you can experience and learn with the reassurance that you are being safely looked after by an expert. We can give you the guidance you need whether you have not climbed much outside before or already have some experience and simply want to develop your climbing. Guided climbs are delivered with a maximum ratio of two people per instructor so you get the best opportunity to learn.

Full Day (6 hours) - Near Bristol £155 for 1 person, £90pp for 2 people, or further afield £180 for 1 person, £90pp for 2 people (see Locations)

Half Day/Evening (3 hours) - Near Bristol £90 for 1 person, £50pp for 2 people

EQUIPMENT

All safety equipment is provided by us, if you wish to use your own we will check it for serviceability before we start. Rock climbing shoes and clothing are not provided but are highly recommended if you have them, otherwise trainers will suffice. Please see our Kit List for what else you will need to bring.

LOCATIONS

Half day/evening sessions for 1 or 2 people can be delivered near Bristol (within 45 mins drive). Full day sessions can be delivered in the same area at the reduced full day rate.

For full day sessions for 1 or 2 people we operate across the South West of England, South East Wales, Snowdonia, the Peak District and the sea cliffs of Pembrokeshire, Anglesey and Cornwall.

Bespoke Climbing Instruction

You can develop your ability to climb outdoors whether you are a complete newbie to real rock or if you already have experience and want to develop yourself to the next level or for a specific objective. We deliver bespoke climbing instruction on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis so you have the maximum opportunity to learn whilst enjoying some awesome climbing and abseiling along the way. Our instructors are highly experienced, professionally qualified and fully insured so you will be in safe hands!

Rock Skills Learn to Lead Trad

Lead climbing is what climbing is really all about, exploring new rock and making your own choices. We teach you the skills you need to keep yourself and your climbing partners safe so you can be independent outdoors. This course is nationally accredited under the Mountain Training Rock Skills scheme.

WHAT’s INCLUDED

  • Background and Planning. Selecting suitable venues and routes, how to use guidebooks and mobile devices to find crags and routes, crag etiquette, the importance of the climbing partnership and the work of the mountaineering councils. 

  • Climbing Skills. Safe and assured movement when leading climbs and optimising natural rests for placing gear. 

  • Equipment. Ropes and technical equipment for lead climbing, contents of a lead rack and how to carry it, selection and function of gear. 

  • Technical Skills. Selection and placement of suitable gear to protect leader and second, choosing anchors, effective ropework, attaching to multiple anchors, belaying, holding leader and second falls in a controlled environment. 

  • Environmental Knowledge. The impact of climbers at the crag, ethics and environmental considerations for climbers. 

  • Hazards and Emergency Procedures. Identifying hazards, decision making and managing risk, understanding common injuries, what to do in the event of an incident, managing common problems, how to get help and learning how Mountain Rescue works.

Age and prior experience

This course is available to those aged 14 or over (for U18s the parent/legal guardian must be precent throughout but don’t have to be participating). You should be competent as a Second climbing outdoors on trad routes, ideally comfortable as a Second at the grade of Very Difficult.

Rock Skills Learn to Lead Sport

Outdoor sport climbing requires an additional number of skills to indoors to stay safe and to climb well! We teach you the skills you need to keep yourself and your climbing partners safe so you can be independent outdoors on sport crags. This course is nationally accredited under the Mountain Training Rock Skills scheme.

Rock Skills Intermediate

This two-day course is crammed full of learning and will develop your skills for rock climbing outdoors so that you can climb independently with other competent lead climbers. We run this course at low instructor to student ratios so that you can best learn from the experience, giving you a broad a range of skills to take forward for your own climbing! The course is nationally accredited by Mountain Training under the Rock Skills scheme and is available to anyone 13 years and over.

Introduction to Outdoor Climbing

This one-day course in the Bristol area allows you to experience climbing and abseiling outside safely, it is ideal for beginners and no prior experience is required, it’s all about having fun! The course covers all the basic skills for rock climbing, it is nationally accredited by Mountain Training under the Rock Skills scheme and is available to anyone 12 years and over.

Rock Improver Week

Course Overview

Progress your rock climbing and learn new skills with a full 5 days of expert instruction in North Wales! This trad climbing course is delivered on a 1:2 basis allowing us to tailor the level of training to suit each individual, giving you the maximum chance to learn. We can climb on a huge variety of venues from the mountain crags and slate quarries of Snowdonia to the sea cliffs of Anglesey with this course aimed at climbing on routes between Severe up to HVS.
